The Latimos Initiative
Colombian Latin Grammy Nominated Music Producer and Sound Engineer, Felipe Arévalo, is embarking on a journey throughout Andean South America. His mission is to connect with communities academic institutions that have limited access to music technology and the music industry, sharing his story and expertise as a producer. Together, they will explore the potential of their music and how to create recordings with resources available in their environment, aiming to foster a sense of empowerment. This project aims to provide substantial know-how to enable individuals to use and harness resources for the benefit of their cultural environment and for their professional aspirations. Simultaneously, it strives to provide tools that can help preserve and promote their distinct musical traditions, celebrating their rich heritage.
Reach
Working together with local leaders, academic institutions and governments to identify the potential benefits for the recipients of the workshops.

It is a priority to proactively develop and provide options that are respectful of the cultural, spiritual and social beliefs and structures of each region.
Share
Delivering an inspiring talk and a recording workshop, combining the power of anecdotal experience and practical applications.

It is a priority that the content and workshops are shaped to cater for the specific requirements of each community.
Empower
Encouraging each individual to use the knowledge given and the resources identified to pursue self-set goals that could be of positive cultural impact. Leaving as a token an audiovisual recording of a musical performance and a list of potential equipment to further strengthen the production capabilities of the community.

It is a priority to leave viable and sensible proposals that can be actionable and respectful of local practices and budgets.
*Our highest goal would be to donate a fully working portable recording studio after every workshop. This is subject to substantial financial help and when not available, we would seek to provide an impartial equipment list that prioritizes the needs of the communities first.
We could use a hand!
Want to support us?
We have already covered the costs associated with getting to Latin America as well as all the accommodation costs, in fact, the workshops are also given for free. However if you are interested in helping us bring a talk to your area or if you would like to get involved, we want to hear from you!

In order for the project to have higher impact we are seeking for funding and sponsorships to cover for 1) Recording devices that will be gifted 2) Beverages and snacks to offer at the workshops 3) Running costs such as fuel and mobile internet.

We are also open to partnerships with organizations and individuals who share our values and vision for empowering communities through music.
